On Friday, March 8, Soroptimist International of Canton/Stark County presented educational awards in six categories, two community showmanship awards, and two Club awards to local women in our community. The Woman of Distinction Award is given to a woman who demonstrates personal and professional dedication to improving the lives of women in Stark County and beyond. The recipient of this year’s Woman of Disitinction Award was Massillon Public Library Director Sherie Brown.
Brown has been director of the Massillon Public Library since August 2011. Prior to that, she served for 25 years as Head of Reference Services at the same institution. Brown has her BA in English Literature with a minor in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati and attended the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. Brown’s hobbies include playing the piano, singing in VOCI, reading, and leading a book club. She plays the calliope for the Massillon Football Booster Club at games and parades, and is Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Massillon, where she also has served on the Rotary Club and Rotary Foundation boards.
