On Monday, May 20, the Cultural Diversity Committee of the Massillon Public Library hosted a celebration of Lori Lightfoot.
Lightfoot, a native of Massillon and a 1980 graduate of Washington High School, was inaugurated at 11:30 a.m. as the first African-American, female, and openly gay Mayor of the City of Chicago. Attendees watched the inauguration as it happened live and listened to guest speakers Patricia Beane, Chair of the Cultural Diversity Committee; LeCounte P. Nedab II, Pastor of the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church; and Thomas West, Ohio House of Representatives for the 49th District. Massillon Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry also made an appearance via video as she was in attendance at the inauguration in Chicago.
Congratulations to the Lightfoot Family!
