The Massillon Public Library is looking to hire a Technology Specialist

POSITION DETAILS:

Position Title: Technology Specialist

Reports To: Technology Manager

Full Time/Part Time: Full time – 34 hours per week

Position Type: Non-exempt, hourly

PURPOSE

  • To support Library staff by maintaining and improving technology services, thereby promoting Library service to all patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one of the following educational qualifications is required:

    • Associate degree in a computer-related field, with 2 years of directly related experience

    • 1 year of post-high school training in a computer-related field, with 3 years of directly related experience

    • Equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field

  • Experience installing, implementing, and troubleshooting in a Windows Server and Windows 7 network

  • Experience in training others in basic hardware and software skills is preferred

  • Experience with public library operations, desirable

  • Working knowledge of Windows, Windows Server, and Internet

  • Solid understanding of networking which is defined as local/wide area system, addressing, routing, and switching

  • Working knowledge of various software packages, i.e., MS Office, sufficient for teaching and assisting staff and public

  • Working knowledge of hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and computers

  • Must have acceptable results on a criminal background check

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain library’s networks

  • Provide input to supervisor on evaluation of hardware and software for library system; assist in purchasing as assigned

  • Install all hardware/software and peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) at Main and branches

  • Diagnose technical problems and implements technology solutions

  • Perform routine computer system functions, diagnostics, and maintenance

  • Maintain appropriate records, including inventory and maintenance logs

  • Safeguard the confidentiality of all library electronic and paper records

  • Keep current on developing trends in computer technology (general & library-related)

  • Follow appropriate cash handling procedures

  • Handle physical aspects of position which include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, bending, stooping, moving, reaching, manual dexterity required for computer work, and lifting up to 35 lbs.

  • Attend meetings and workshops appropriate to position

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
