On Special Needs Night, the library reopens after its regular hours to provide a sensory story time, computer and WiFi access, a caring staff, and of course the ability to borrow library materials. “Special Needs Night” is offered on the fourth Saturday of the month at the Main library location in downtown Massillon.
This is an exceptional opportunity for families and children who have special needs to socialize and network in a friendly, no-stress environment. Although people of all abilities are always welcome at the library, sometimes individuals with developmental disabilities have difficulty with new places or experiences. With this extra open time just for them, the individuals and families can feel free to enjoy library services without concerns about typical restrictions, such as making too much noise.
The library has recruited experienced multi-disability teachers and other specialists to assist and make patrons feel comfortable. Registration is suggested, but not required, for the storytime.
The Massillon Public Library is located at 208 Lincoln Way E. The Second Street entrance is handicap accessible.
