The popular Jazz Tuesday concert series, sponsored by the Massillon Public Library, is free and open to the public. Concerts take place at the Massillon Senior Center (39 Lincoln Way West) from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Bring your instrument and join in, if you wish! The band’s leader and trumpet player is local optometrist, Tom Altland, who also fronts his own combo and is a member of the Clinton Community Band. Local attorney Dave Bridenstine - retired from the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office - on cornet and valve trombone adds a nice brass complement to the band. Trombonist Dave Bair, from New Philadelphia, plays gigs around the area and is a regular in several community bands. Barrett Taylor plays clarinet and entertains with small swing bands in Northeast Ohio. Arden Agnes, a band regular, plays outstanding swing tenor saxophone and is a member of the Canton Symphony Orchestra.
Jim Drain, with extensive experience in local blues, rock and big bands, is the group's pianist. Ron Benach, a former school band director and accomplished musician, usually plays guitar and banjo, but also joins in on bass from time to time. Joe Lautzenheiser, the youngest member of the band, plays violin like a seasoned veteran. Former teacher, Eileen Freeze, sings vocals and plays the ukulele. She has her own band and participates in many area jam sessions and entertains at retirement homes. Tim Turkal, local music entertainer, fills in on guitar, banjo and tambourine. The bass guitarist is Paul Matson, an alumnus of the Massillon Tiger Swing Band. Jim Chatterton fills the drum chair.
On-street parking, as well as two-hour free parking on the parking deck behind the Senior Center building is available to the public. Handicap parking is also available on street level beneath the parking deck. Attendees may enter the rear of the building from the parking deck.
