Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer Wolff

LaVaughn is a fourteen year-old girl who wants to get out of where she lives and go to college. To save money for college, she babysits for Jolly, an eighteen year-old who has two little kids of her own. Jolly's apartment is not the cleanest and is broken down looking. When Jolly loses her job, she and LaVaughn are pulled together and apart. They learn from each other what the phrase "when life gives you lemons .... make lemonade" really means.
