    Izzy, Willy-Nilly by Cynthia Voigt

Izzy, Willy Nilly is a book about an unhappy high schooler who lives a simple and calm life. Isobel (her nickname is Izzy) is popular, pretty, and boringly nice. Izzy's life has become too comfortable and plain for her to handle.

At a party, she faces the problem of going home with a drunk date. She is apprehensive about leaving with her date, but, in order to be nice, she leaves with him anyway. Unfortunately, during the drive home, the car crashes and Izzy's normal life story goes seriously wrong.

Due to the accident, Izzy is forced to have her lower left leg amputated. The next few months are very depressing and slow as Izzy heals at a tedious pace in the hospital. Rosamunde, a casual acquaintance from Izzy's school, suddenly shows up at her hospital door. The two were never good friends and rarely talked; but, slowly, a friendship forms between the two girls. Rosamunde helps transform Izzy from an unhappy and too polite girl to a happy, active, and intellectual friend. Izzy, Willy-Nilly is a thought provoking and inspiring novel.
