Rotunda Floor to be Replaced

A renovation project may cause periodic inconvenience during the month of September.  The 1936-vintage original Main Library rotunda flooring is to be replaced.  At the same time, a new adult circulation desk, which includes accessibility for persons using wheelchairs, will be installed further back in the room to accommodate checkout lines.

This desk is being funded by the generous support of the Massillon Rotary Foundation with some of the proceeds from their Oktoberfest fundraiser on October 11, at Shady Hollow Country Club.   Library supporters are encouraged to support and attend that event, knowing that the Library is a promised beneficiary.

Removal of the old desk and flooring began early in September, and the rotunda is slated to be reopened September 28.  Since the rotunda is the hub through which most parts of the upper floors are reached, you may expect that there will be some days that you will be detoured through other parts of the building, and even times when the only access will be via a rear staircase, not by elevator.  It’s recommended that you call before your visit if you require assistance.

All Audio Visual items will be checked out in the Audio Visual Department. All other items will be check out in the Reading Room at a temporary Circulation Desk. Children’s Services and programming in the auditorium, on the ground floor, will not be impacted in any way by this project.
