Operation Paperback is a non-profit organization that collects gently used books nationwide and sends them to American troops overseas, as well as veterans and military families here at home. Since 1999, they have shipped over 1.9 million books to soldiers around the globe.
The Massillon Public Library is giving our community the opportunity to participate with this organization by being a collection point for clean, gently used paperback books. Our service members and their families make sacrifices every day for our country, this gesture will let them know we appreciate them.
In addition to overseas locations, Operation Paperback provides books to military and veterans hospitals located within the United States, as well as USO centers at US Airport transit points and free shipment of books to any military family. They also supply children's books to deployed soldiers who read to their children via webcam or on DVDs!
If you would like to give our troops the chance to escape into a good book, you may drop off clean, gently used paperbacks or children’s books at all Massillon Public Library locations. All genres are appreciated EXCEPT for romances. Each location will have a camouflage box conveniently located near the main service desk for collection. Donated books of all kinds are still welcome for our “Trade Rack” and for the Friends of Massillon Public Library book sales.
