Massillon Public Library Receives $500 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation

Grant supports Massillon Public Library’s reading program

The Massillon Public Library recently received a $500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Organization to support its literacy programs. Specifically, the grant supported a book giveaway during the children’s Summer Reading Program.

“It’s important for children to have their own books, as well as being able to borrow library books,” said library Children’s Services Manager Laura Klein. “We were very pleased with the grant, which allowed us to purchase new books children could choose from to keep for their very own.”

The Massillon Public Library’s annual children’s Summer Reading Program exists to provide area kids with reading encouragement, entertainment and education. Prizes and incentives add to the joy of reading to drive kids’ participation.

“At Dollar General, we are passionate about our mission of Serving Others throughout the communities we serve,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO. “It’s exciting to see the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s outreach in action as we partner with organizations to further education and literacy and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $81 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 4.7 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
