Massillon Public Library is excited to offer Shake-It-Up Story Time, with a special emphasis on music and movement, for children ages 2 to 5, on Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., January 6 to February 13. This new time slot was developed for families with a child who attends preschool in the morning. This gives them time to eat lunch and then enjoy Story Time together before school-aged children arrive home.
Shake-It-Up Story Time
is designed to be a special time for child and parent or caregiver to spend together listening to stories, singing, dancing, playing rhythm instruments, and participating in creative movement activities. Both children and adults will be invited to get up and move, using their imaginations!
Adults will be given ideas on how to incorporate five very important, yet simple, every day practices that lead to reading and school success in children. They are: singing, talking, reading, playing, and writing. The adults attending this story time will learn how to easily and naturally incorporate these simple practices into their daily lives, thus cultivating the child’s development of important early literacy skills.
In Shake-It-Up Story Time, age-appropriate books and stories are shared. Listening to stories in a fun and relaxed atmosphere helps a child develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. Children also sing, dance, and make music—all activities which foster development of language and gross motor skills. Children also participate in creative movement activities, helping their imagination to develop. Participating in Story Time helps children learn to take turns, follow instructions, and make new friends.
Registration is required for this free program and begins Monday, December 30
. For more information or to register, please contact the Children’s Department
