Branch Manager (Pam S. Belloni Branch)

 

The Massillon Public Library is looking to hire a Branch Manager for the Pam S. Belloni Branch Library. The branch is located in the Fairless Elementary School in Brewster, Ohio.

POSITION DETAILS:

 

Position Title: Branch Manager

Reports To: Outreach Services Manager

Position Type: Non-exempt, Hourly (Pay Grade 25)

Full Time/Part Time: Full Time (34 hours per week)

Rate of Pay: $14.08/hour

Retirement: Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS)

(Library contributes 14%; Employee contributes 10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a combination of education and related work experience will be considered at the Library’s discretion. Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Candidates must pass a criminal background check and comply with drug-free workplace policies.

  • Proof of auto liability insurance is required.

  • Must have reliable transportation and a working phone.

  • BCI/FBI background checks are required and will be conducted post-job offer. Results of BCI/FBI background checks may affect employment decision.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of popular authors/books, performers, performing arts, and audiovisual materials.

  • Knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of electronic resources used in library applications.

  • Excellent listening, reading, comprehension and communication skills (oral and written) of English language.

  • Basic computer/word processing and Internet/e-mail skills.

  • Ability to assume responsibility for actions; use professionalism, leadership and organizational skills and diplomacy when dealing with others.

  • Ability to evaluate/interpret community interests and needs, and develop appropriate library services.

  • Consistently present Massillon Public Library and Fairless Schools in a positive manner.

  • Work effectively as a team member.

  • Work efficiently, independently and make sound decisions.

  • Handle physical aspects of position which include, but are not limited to: bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, lifting, moving, sitting carrying and moving supplies/equipment; manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e., computer, copier), and lifting up to 35 lbs. Ability to push/pull loaded carts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Leadership:

  • Directs all Pam S. Belloni Branch services, which includes: reference, circulation, programs, publicity, outreach and use of facilities.

  • Establishes goals and objectives for branch in accordance with community and school needs.

  • Interviews, selects, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates branch staff.

  • Keeps supervisor apprised of branch’s needs and activities.

  • Adheres to and enforces policies and procedures set forth by the library and the Fairless Local school district.

  • Maintains a professional image of the school district and the library.

  • Promotes effective communication and assistance. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address questions/concerns. Refers policy interpretation inquiries to school or library administration as appropriate.

  • Upholds the student conduct code. Maintains high expectations for behavior and performance.

  • Ensures adherence by staff to library policies and standards.

Services:

  • Plans, presents, and evaluates adult and children’s programs.

  • Keeps current on trends in public library service.

  • Maintain the library’s presence in the community and supports community partnerships that enhance district programs

  • Keeps the branch’s collection and facilities appealing and accessible to school and non-school patrons.

  • Provides direct reference and reader’s advisory service.

  • Performs routine tasks at the branch’s circulation desk.

  • Assists with training and support activities that enhance school staff and student access to library/media resource materials and equipment.

  • Collects and reserves material for classroom assignments when requested.

  • Prepares and presents special topics to classes when requested.

Materials/Fines:

  • Expends materials budget based on analysis of collection use and community information needs.

  • Keeps collection current through selection and weeding of appropriate materials.

  • Maintains accurate records and statistics. Submits reports on time.

  • Oversees proper shelving of library materials.

  • Promotes the proper use, care and security of school property.

  • Complies with school district policy regarding student overdues, fines and fees.

Patrons:

  • Uses effective communication strategies to introduce new library/media resources to patrons.

  • Provides regular orientation sessions for patrons. Works with staff to improve student learning through the effective use of library/media resources.

  • Helps patrons use library computers and equipment.

  • Handles patron concerns in a courteous, tactful manner, providing clarification of the appropriate policies and procedures.

  • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.

Students:

  • Uses story-sharing activities to promote enthusiasm for reading. Supports an inclusive educational environment. Helps students with disabilities participate in appropriate learning activities as directed.

  • Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g. access and proximity to activities, use of adaptive equipment, etc .)

  • Upholds the student conduct code. Maintains high expectations for behavior and performance by using effective pupil management procedures.

  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment that stimulates student interest, enthusiasm and inquisitiveness about subjects and events.

Safety:

  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.

  • Takes precautions to ensure safety.

  • Monitors situations that may indicate a problem.

  • Provides appropriate student supervision.

  • Works with supervisors to manage or eliminate risk factors

  • Prolonged use of computer keyboard and monitor.

  • Working under time restraints to meet deadlines.

  • Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive and/or unruly individuals.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Serves on Materials Selection Committee for the library.

  • Attends meetings, workshops and activities as required for the position.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
