The Massillon Public Library is looking to hire Bookmobile Driver Substitutes. Substitutes do not have regular hours. Substitutes are employed on an as-needed basis.
Position Title: Bookmobile Driver Substitute
Reports To: Outreach Services Manager
Position Type: Non-exempt, Hourly
Full Time/Part Time: Substitute – as needed
Rate of Pay: $11.06/hour
Retirement: Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS)
(Library contributes 14%; Employee contributes 10%)
At least one of the following educational qualifications:
One (1) year of post-high school training in a directly related field, with one (1) year of directly related experience required. Two (2) years of directly related experience, preferred.
High school diploma or GED, with three (3) years of directly related experience required. Four (4) years of directly related experience, preferred.
Customer service experience, preferably in library environment, desirable. Must enjoy working with the public; all age groups.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with no air brakes restriction. Good driving record. Experience driving a bus, bookmobile or large van. Subject to drug screening tests as required by state law. Reliable transportation for getting to work, and to use when library van is not available. Proof of auto liability insurance. Working telephone.
Criminal background checks are conducted post-job offer. Results of background checks may affect employment decision.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of popular authors and books.
English language oral communication and written communication skills sufficient for work with supervisor, other staff and patrons of all ages.
Good reading and comprehension of English language.
Basic computer/word processing and Internet/e-mail skills.
Consistently present Massillon Public Library and its services in a positive manner.
Follow library’s written general and department-specific standards, and personnel policies.
Meet regular work attendance requirements.
Attend meetings and workshops appropriate to position.
Work effectively as a team member.
Deal effectively with a wide variety of patrons.
Work effectively under pressure.
Perform basic clerical tasks relevant to position.
Work independently and make sound decisions.
Handle physical aspects of position which include, but are not limited to: dexterity required for driving and climbing on/off bookmobile, shelving materials, manual dexterity required for computer work, and lifting up to 35 lbs. Ability to push/pull loaded carts.
Performs routine circulation tasks connected with department’s services.
Performs computer searches to locate and reserve library materials.
Collects fines and fees.
Opens, monitors, and secures bookmobile, as assigned.
Stocks bookmobile with appropriate collection, materials and supplies for scheduled stops.
Shelves materials on bookmobile and in bookmobile stack room.
Performs clerical tasks, as required.
Operates bookmobile in accordance with safety regulations and state laws.
Performs routine bookmobile maintenance, such as fueling, checking fluids and general cleaning.
Keeps maintenance log.
Attends general staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
