The Massillon Public Library is looking to hire Shelver Substitutes. Substitutes do not have regular hours. Substitutes are employed on an as-needed basis.
Position Title: Shelver Substitute
Reports To: Circulation and Technology Manager and/or Children’s Services Manager
Position Type: Non-exempt, Hourly
Full Time/Part Time: Substitute – as needed
Rate of Pay: $7.95/hour
Retirement: Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS)
(Library contributes 14%; Employee contributes 10%)
Sixteen*(16) years of age or older (*with work permit). Those with previous library work experience will be given priority consideration.
One (1) year of post-high school training in a directly related field, with one (1) year of directly related experience required. Two (2) years of directly related experience, preferred.
Must have reliable transportation and a working telephone.
Criminal background checks are conducted post-job offer. Results of background checks may affect employment decision.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good oral/written communication skills; visual, general math and reading skills.
Basic computer/word processing and Internet/e-mail.
Consistently present Massillon Public Library and its services in a positive manner.
Follow library’s written general and department-specific standards, and personnel policies.
Meet regular work attendance requirements; attend meetings appropriate to position.
Detail-oriented; work effectively as a team member.
Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
Ability to continually reach, bend, stretch, stoop, ascend/descend steps, and lift materials that can weigh up to 10 pounds apiece from a standing position for three to four hours a day.
Ability, for three to four hours a day, to retrieve and replace materials that can weigh up to 10 lbs apiece on shelves from floor level to seven feet high.
Ability to repeatedly push and pull shelving carts requiring up to 50 pounds of force.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds from one part of the library to another.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with patrons of all ages and with other employees.
Shelves library materials.
Maintains order and appearance of all shelved materials, display racks, etc., for department. This includes shifting materials, as needed.
Clears library materials from tables.
Clears book drop.
Assists with pulling materials for reserves.
Assists with sorting and packing of library materials received and sent by delivery services.
Assists with department/building closing tasks, which includes turning off computers and copiers.
Assists with book displays.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
