Interlibrary Loan

The Massillon Public Library strives to have a large and diverse collection, but space and budget limits keep us from owning every item you might seek. If we do not own the book, music or movie you need, we are glad to search for your item at other libraries and order it through a process we call Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Most of the time Interlibrary Loan is a free service for you. There might be photocopy charges for articles from magazines and journals, or the owning library might charge a fee for a special item. We will inform you of these charges before ordering.

First check the online catalog which includes materials from the Massillon Public Library, the Stark County District Library and the Louisville Public Library. If you find your item, follow the directions on the screen for placing the item on hold.

If our catalog does not contain your item, next click on the link for SearchOhio which gives you easy access to over seven million items from other Ohio library systems such as Cuyahoga Falls, Cuyahoga County, Greene County, Toledo-Lucas County, Warren-Trumbull County, Westerville, and Youngstown-Mahoning County. If your item is on the shelf at any of those libraries, you may proceed with placing a hold with your library just as if we owned it at Massillon. It will not, however, accept holds on items already checked out.

If your item is NOT in the online catalog or SearchOhio - or if it belongs to a library that will not allow you to place an online hold - you may initiate an ILL request:

      • If you are requesting a book, video, CD, cassette or DVD use this form.
      • If you are requesting a specific magazine or journal article, use this form.

Note: If you are not looking for a specific article, you should use one of our Research Databases to conduct a keyword search for the subject you are researching.
