Do you spend your vacations tracking down ancestors in county courthouses? Can you remember the date a distant relative died, but you cannot remember to feed the family pets? Then you might be addicted to Genealogy! If so, we have just the cure: on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Massillon Public Library will host a Basic Genealogy Workshop in the library auditorium. The $10.00 cost of the workshop supplies you with extensive genealogy research tools and information that stretch around the globe and reach back through hundreds of years of historical records.
The workshop presents a variety of specific research skills, such as deciphering old handwriting styles and recognizing symbols commonly used in historic public and family records. You will be saved hours of futile searching by learning where to begin your research, based on your ancestor’s place of origin or date of birth. You will also be taught how to easily maneuver through naturalization and census records, as well as ship passenger lists.
This Basic Genealogy Workshop is geared for genealogists of all skill levels, as well as those just considering genealogy research. The workshop breaks for lunch on your own.
