The November monthly meeting of the Massillon Genealogical Society will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the society’s new meeting location, the Lillian Beane Center, 1711 - 6th Street SE in Massillon.
Guest speaker, Dr. William H. Samonides, a Harvard University scholar and PHD who has devoted himself to the reconstruction of the Pontian Hellenic community in his hometown of Canton, Ohio, is a member of the Asia Minor Hellenic American Society (AMHAS), an international organization of people of Hellenic descent who trace their origins to Asia Minor. Established fifteen years ago, AMHAS is committed to correcting the historical record which violates the memory of the innocent victims who were brutalized by murder and rape, by massacre and the death march of the Ottoman and Turkish repression.
Dr. Samonides will give a presentation on the Greek Islands, where he previously lived, along with some valuable Greek history.
