POSITION: Substitute Circulation Assistant – Main and Branch locations, and bookmobile.

WORK SCHEDULE:  On an as needed basis.

Week days/evenings and Weekends. 

TRAINING PERIOD:  Up to Forty (40) hours (combination training/worked).  Improvement must be shown during this combined training/work period for continued employment through full forty (40) hours of training period.  

PAY RATE:  $8.10/hour.
QUALIFICATIONS: 

At least one of the following: 

One (1) year of post-high school training in a directly related field, with one (1) year of public library experience or similar work required.  Two (2) years of public library experience or similar work, preferred.

(OR)  High school diploma or GED, with three (3) years of public library experience or similar work, required.  Four (4) years of public library experience or similar work, preferred. 

Equivalent public library experience or similar work with lesser formal education will be considered. 

ALSO REQUIRED:  Available on short notice.  Reliable transportation for getting to work and attending meetings/training seminars away from regular work site.  Proof of auto liability insurance.  Working telephone.  Must enjoy working with the public; all ages.

Criminal background check will be conducted post-job offer.  Result of background check may affect employment status.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of…

General knowledge of popular authors and books.

General knowledge of performers, performing arts, and audiovisual materials.

Online catalogs.

Skills…

English language oral and written communication skills sufficient for work with supervisor, other staff, and patrons.

Good reading and comprehension of English language.

Basic computer/word processing and Internet/e-mail.

Good visual.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Checks materials in/out.

Issues new or replacement library cards.

Collects fees for overdue, lost or damaged materials.

Clears patron records when fees are collected.

Performs computer searches to locate and reserve materials for patrons, including SEO requests.

Renews materials for patrons in person or by phone.

Assists with sorting and packing of library materials received and sent via delivery service.

Assists with circulation desk set up and closing of department or building.

Answers telephone and routes calls.

Assists patrons with copier.

Assists with shelving materials, as needed.

OTHER DUTIES:

Attends meetings, as required.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
