The Friends of Massillon Public Library organization has purchased a subscription to Footnote.com, a database of historic documents from the National Archives, the Library of Congress and other institutions. You can access the images from this database remotely from home or school.
Footnote is more than just a dusty, digital online archive. It is a perfect resource for genealogists, researchers, family historians, military historians, teachers and many others. New collections are constantly being added, from African-American historical documents to photographs from the Vietnam War, providing a rare glimpse into history that was once hidden.
In 1999, the company began to digitize historical newspapers and other archive content for leading universities, libraries and media companies across the United States. Quickly realizing the importance of providing internet access to these historically significant and valuable collections, they went live in 2007 with over 5 million documents on the site. That number has now grown to over 62 million images!
Access is available online via the Library's Website Click on "Research," "Databases" and "Alphabetical List" to see Footnote.com and many other subscription services.
