The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton took me to a different world where the battle between the classes, the Greasers and the Socs, was bitter.

Greaser Ponyboy Curtis finds he shares a love of literature and music with Cherry, who is a Soc. Both groups deal with sorrow over friends they have lost. The Outsiders reminds us that all people deal with the same issues and fears. We should look past others' exteriors to get to know them, and treat them with compassion and kindness. Older readers--5th grade and up, will enjoy this timeless classic.
