People borrowed 79,974 items from the Massillon Public Library during the month of
November 2007. This is an increase of 12.13% over November 2006.
Overall, the library's circulation for the first 11 months of 2007 is 1% greater
than the same period in 2006. Considering that the Navarre Branch was closed
from May 25 re-opening its temporary quarters, Massillon's original bookmobile,
and that the Brewster Branch was closed from May 25 until September 19 when
operations began in the new library inside the Fairless Elementary School,
Library Board members and Library Director Camille Leslie are
pleased with the
system's usage.
The operating levy passed by the citizens of the library's service district in
November 2006 enabled the library to almost double the amount of dollars spent
for new books, music, and movies, so the public has had many more new items to
borrow this year than last.
A big change in 2008 will be the implementation of the library's new automated
circulation system which will connect Massillon Public Library not only directly
with Louisville and Stark County District Libraries but also with a network of
several other large public libraries in the state. Patrons will be able to
request through the computer titles owned by all these libraries, and the scope
of Massillon Public Library's interlibrary loan capability
will be much enhanced.
The new system, called Innovative Interfaces, Inc., is scheduled to "go live" for the
public in all library locations on February 27, 2008.
