In celebration of
National Poetry
Month, the Massillon Public Library invites all local bards to submit their
original poems to be entered into one of 3 poetry contests! The categories are
Children (grades Kindergarten to 6), Young Adults (grades 7 to 12), and Adults, over
age 18. The winner of the Children's contest will receive a 1GB iPod Shuffle, and the
winners of the Adult and Young Adult contests will receive a 4GB iPod Nano. These items
were generously donated by the Junior Friends of the Massillon Public Library.
All original poetry that is submitted will be considered for the FIRST EVER Massillon
Public Library Patron Book of Poetry. Poems must be family-friendly and will be judged
by local, published poet, and full-time faculty member at Stark State College of Technology,
Duane Matthew Dodson. Winners will also be given the opportunity to read their poems
during National Library Week, at the "Poetry Read-In," on Tuesday, April 8th at
7:00 p.m. Winners will be awarded their prizes during the Read-In.
Deadline for entries is March 31, 2008. Entry forms are available at the Main
Library Circulation Desk, Main Children's Department and the Bookmobile, as well as
the Barry Askren and Pam S. Belloni Branches. Entry forms may also be downloaded here:
