Do you spend your vacation tracking down ancestors in county courthouses? Can you remember
the date an ancestor died, but you cannot remember to feed the family pets? Then you might be
addicted to Genealogy! If so, we have just the cure: on
Saturday, March 22 from 9:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium, the Massillon Public Library will host a Basic Genealogy Workshop.
The cost of the workshop, $10.00, supplies each attendee with extensive genealogy researching
resources, ranging from databases available on the Massillon Public Library's website, to
investigative tools that give access to information and documents stretching across the globe
and back through hundreds of years of historical records.
In addition to these invaluable tools and resources, this workshop will equip attendees with
a variety of specific research skills, such as deciphering old handwriting styles, recognizing
symbols which were commonly used in historic public and family records, and many more. These tools,
plus essential tips on where to begin searching, based on ancestors' place of origin, as well as
their date of birth will save you hours of futile hunting. The workshop will also teach you
specific skills essential to maneuvering easily through naturalization and census records, as
well as ship passenger lists.
This Basic Genealogy Workshop is geared for genealogists of all skill levels and those who are
considering genealogy research. The workshop breaks for lunch on your own in the afternoon.

Registration can be done at the Reference Desk of the Massillon Public Library 208 Lincoln Way East.
