Library Now a Wireless Hot Spot

A new wireless internet access point went "live" on May 22, 2006 at the main location of the Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way East.

"People have been asking for computer access in places throughout the main library, not only in the Reference Room and Children's Department," said Kat Weckbacher, the library's Technology Manager.

Patrons must bring their own laptop. The library has none to loan. Some of the same rules govern the use of laptops as apply to the library's hardwired machines. Viewing websites inappropriate in public places will result in the patron's being asked to leave the library. Getting started simply requires the patron to read a few simple instructions and agree to abide by the acceptable use policy.

The new service, like most services at your public library, is free of charge.

"The library is the community's information hub," commented Board President Phillip Elum, "and wireless is just the next logical step in our keeping abreast as much as our budget constraints allow with technology."
