Football Memorabilia on Display at the Library

Through the month of August, Massillon Public Library is pleased to present a display of memorabilia provided by the Massillon Tiger Booster Club Football Museum. The Museum is a committee of the Booster Club that collects, restores, preserves and archives articles of importance pertaining to the history of Tiger football. It currently has no permanent physical building, so many of these items are not normally out for public view.

Among many newspaper clippings, photos and pieces of memorabilia are such treasures as an early recording of the Tiger Swing Band, a rare book on coaching by Chuck Mather, a copper-plated World War I battle helmet worn as part of a 1940s era band uniform, aerial photos of the stadium, postcards and autographed items.

The display was coordinated by well-known Tiger Booster and videographer Ron Prunty, WHS '57. Ron was the drum major in 1955 and 1956 and vividly recalls the highlight of those years, marching in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena. Look carefully and you'll find a photo of Ron in the display.

The free exhibit is set up in the library's rotunda, which houses the adult circulation desk. Visit during library hours: Monday through Thursday 9:00AM - 9:00PM, Friday and Saturday 9:00AM - 5:00PM.

The library is at 208 Lincoln Way E., Massillon. For more information, contact Sherie Brown, Head of Reference Services at 330.832.9831 ext. 307.
