Beacon logo Nominate for the Beacon Award!

The Beacon Award is an annual award presented by the Massillon Public Library to publicly recognize a school employee who has encouraged students to use the Library. The first award was presented in 2001, for the 2000-2001 school year.

Eligible nominees must be employees from one of the ten public or three private schools within the Massillon City School District who have helped promote reading and encouraged students to utilize the free resources available to them at the Massillon Public Library during the twelve-month period preceding March 15.

The Beacon Award winner receives a certificate of recognition and a certificate for merchandise from Borders Books, Music and Cafe. The winner's name is engraved on a plaque, which hangs in the Main Library. A book is also purchased in the winner's name and is presented to the library in the school where the winner was employed in the school year preceding the September awards ceremony.

Anyone is free to nominate a school staff member by completing a nomination form. Forms can be returned at the Main Library to the attention of Mary Ellen Hawthorn. The deadline for nominations is August 1.

Beacon nomination forms are available at the Main Library or online. A free Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print the form.
