This book is strong in character, story and language.
Summary:
A witty and uplifting memoir of growing up in the 1960s and 70s in
small-town Indiana, where everyone kept a chicken in their backyard, neighbors
helped each other, all families were dysfunctional (but didn't know the term)
and a little girl nicknamed "Zippy" (for racing around the house) watched and
listened, waiting to make great literature from the mundane.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This book was one of my most pleasant reading surprises in a very long time. It was so
funny sometimes I had to read passages aloud to my family . . . but several pages
later had to wipe away tears. A delight.
The publisher includes discussion questions at the end of the book,
making this a perfect choice for book clubs.
