This book is strong in character and story.
Summary:
Ken Kimble marries three very different women through his lifetime,
conning and cheating on all of them. He is barely a character in this
book - rather, it is Birdie's story (teenager enamored of the young choir
director,) then Joan's (successful career woman coping with breast cancer and
her ticking biological clock,) then Dinah's (his first family's babysitter,
she'd always had a crush on him and was easily convinced he was the wronged
party.)
The reader grows to care for each of these women,
and his neglected children. It's sad - but easy to believe - how he uses their
insecurities to worm his way into their lives, leaving emotional and financial
ruin in his wake.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
Some reviewers felt that we needed to know more about Kimble and "how he
got that way," but that's not the point. This is a "can't put down" read, and
one I passed on to my best friend . . . that means it's a winner!
Other information about this book:
This is Haigh's first novel.
