Title: Eat Cake
Author: Jeanne Ray
type of book: Fiction
call number: Fic

This book is strong in character.
Summary:
Ever since her home was robbed nearly a year before, Ruth's mother has been
living with her family (a husband, teenage daughter and a son away at college).
Ruth's husband is a successful hospital administrator. Her daughter is a good
girl, although she is full of teenage angst. Ruth spends her time running her
home and baking too much cake (according to her family).
When Ruth dreams of her "safe, happy place," a technique she learned
in a stress reducing class, she dreams of being in the middle of a
humongous, fresh, warm bundt cake. Cake will be her salvation when her life is
turned upside down.
One day her husband comes home from work and tells them he has been fired.
The next morning Ruth is awakened by a phone call from a hospital several hours
away telling her that her estranged father, whom her mother
hates with a passion, has broken both of his arms and needs to come stay with
them until he heals.
Can cake save Ruth's family, and her sanity as well?
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This is a delightfully told story, with likeable - and, more importantly,
believable - characters. Plus, at the end of the book are recipes for many of
the delicious cakes Ruth makes throughout the story!
Other suggested reading:
Jeanne Ray has written a few other books - Step-Ball-Change and Julie and Romeo - but I haven't read them yet.
