This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
Wilson Lewis and his wife have been married for 29 years. Their three
children are out of the house with the youngest in college. On the day of their
29th anniversary, Wilson comes home to a nice dinner and gifts from his wife only
to realize that he has forgotten it was their anniversary. His wife's reaction
and her continued indifference toward him from that evening on makes him realize
the toll his work oriented lifestyle has taken on his marriage. He questions his
wife's love for him and decides to change his ways and make his wife fall in
love with him again. He seeks the advise of his father-in-law, Noah, and sets
the wheels in motion to make sure that their 30th anniversary will be a
memorable one. Their oldest daughter's announcement that she plans to be married
in one week - on her parent's 30th anniversary - threatens to ruin all of Wilson's
plans. The events leading up to the wedding and the wedding itself have a
profound effect on all those involved.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This book was very enjoyable and the characters are well developed. I found having
the story presented from the male perspective especially interesting. As Wilson reminisced about their meeting, courtship and married life, it was
easy to see how they arrived at this point in their lives. His decision to try
to change, and the steps he took to bring this about, make for enjoyable reading.
