Title: The Pleasure of My Company
Author: Steve Martin
type of book: Fiction
call number: Fic
|
This book is strong in character, story and language.
Summary:
Daniel Cambridge is a young man working around his obsessive-compulsive
neuroses to reach out and connect with people around him--hard to do when you
can't cross the block, or are compelled to iron everything and touch all the
copiers in Kinkos. Fortunately his insular world opens to some neighbors and
"student shrink" turned roommate, and ultimately to a new life.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
It is funny (poignant, not laugh-out-loud) and sweet, and you root for
Daniel and those who care for him. The language is brilliant. I suspect Steve
Martin will eventually be known more for his writing than acting, as successful
as that's been!
Martin's previous best-seller was the novella Shopgirl.
