Title: What a Girl Wants
Author: Liz Maverick
type of book: Contemporary Women's Fiction
call number: Fic

This book is strong in character and story.
Summary:
This debut novel is reminiscent of the "Sex in the City" television show. Hayley Jane Smith is an unhappy and confused woman. The only
solaces in her life are her three best friends: Audra the successful career
woman; Diane, the career student; and Suz, the career waitress, who goes
through men like Kleenex. Hayley hates her job, has had no boyfriend or sex for
over a year, and has just found her supervisor dead in the cubicle next to hers.
However, things begin to look up when the police detective, Grant Hutchinson,
walks into the staff lounge to question her about the deceased coworker.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This quick read and entertaining novel takes us through a reworking
of Hayley's twenty-something life. She gets advice from her friends in some
attempts to change her life for the better, i.e. asking for a raise and getting a date
with the gorgeous Grant, which end up going terribly wrong. She gets fired and
starts to believe that maybe Grant thinks her guilty in Fred Leary's death.
Readers will enjoy the intense female friendships, dating hazard situations
between Hayley and Grant, and the way Hayley tries to figure out what it really
is she wants from life.
