This book is strong in character, story, language and setting.
Summary:
Alex is a twenty something New Yorker who hates her job and social
life in the city. She wants change but isn't sure what to change. Her friends
Robin and Michael are supportive but provide no answers. Her recent ex
boyfriend Evan provides an answer.: He tells her she could never get into a
British graduate school program. She takes that as a challenge, applies and gets
accepted. Soon she finds herself in a small dormitory room filled with other
graduate students (Christina and Melanie) in England - only she's not sure if this is
what she wanted either. She befriends Toby and Jason who are in the English
Studies program with her.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
I highly recommend this book to fans of chick lit or women's fiction. It
has all the appeal factors: a great setting, wonderful characters, cool British
language, and an appealing story of a single woman trying to find out where she belongs. Also, there is humor provided by Alex's quick wit and cranky
comments. There is a lot of drinking, dating, writing of papers, and pondering
life's big questions.
