This book is strong in
language.
Summary:
The author of the best-selling novel The Corrections weighs in on
topics as diverse as his father's alzheimers disease to the demise of "serious"
fiction writing. The title seems to refer to being alone within the technology
and consumerism of modern culture.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
Franzen can be infuriatingly self-absorbed -- but that makes his comments on
our culture biting and thought-provoking. His reporting skills are superb, and
I learned more than I ever wanted about the scandals within the US postal
system, and how a supermax prison impacts a local economy -- in short, demanding
reading, but worth it.
