Summary:
Charity Royal, chafing under the imagined control of the widowed lawyer who raised her and longing to escape a boring future in a small town, has a love affair with a young architect who is visiting his aunt. When she discovers her pregnancy, she must come to terms with her lover's engagement to another girl and make decisions about her own future.

Why?
This is a moving coming-of-age story where taking on adult responsibilities means inevitable loss, but also satisfaction with the maturity and growth that comes with accepting that adulthood.
