    Summary:
5 artists share a studio where they work more or less full time. Since they haven't made much money, they are considering quitting the studio and finding real jobs. The narrator is Dave, one of the artists, who tells stories (all Hungarian fairy tales) he learned growing up. The story of Csucskari, a gypsy who tries to find the sun, moon and stars and restore them to the vacant heavens, is intermixed with the story of the artists.

I would NOT recommend this book!

    Why not?
I actually couldn't finish this book. I found it hard to follow and just annoying how the author finished each chapter with "Bones?" I put it down two weeks ago to read something else and have yet to force myself to finish it.

Other interesting information about this book:
This is the first book in Terri Windling's Fairy Tales Series. If I would have read this one first, I would not have read any of the others.

    Other suggested reading:
I have really enjoyed the rest of the Fairy Tales series. Skip this book and read the others:
  • The Nightingale by Kara Dalkey
  • Tam Lin by Pamela Dean
  • Fitcher's Brides by Gregory Frost
  • White as Snow by Tanith Lee
  • Jack the Giant-Killer by Charles de Lint
  • Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
