This book is strong in
character, story, language and setting.
Summary:
Was the Wicked Witch of the West really a wicked witch? How did she
come to be known as such? Did Dorothy murder the Witch or was it an accident?
And most importantly, who was the Wicked Witch of the West?
These questions are artfully answered throughout the novel. In the beginning,
we meet the family of Elphaba, right before her birth, and see their horror that
she is GREEN and has a full set of very sharp teeth!
She grows up and goes off to Shiz for college where she ends up rooming with the
one and only Glinda. Outspoken, intelligent and definitely different, Elphaba
struggles through life.
And the rest, is history...
I would recommend this book!
Why?
It is wonderfully written! This account of the Wizard of Oz from the Witch's
point of view is enthralling. Love, betrayal, madness, intrigue - all are portrayed in
