Title: Do's and Taboos of Using English Around the World
Author: Roger E. Axtell
type of book: Non-Fiction
call number: 428/Axl
|
This book is strong in language.
Summary:
The author, using many anecdotes and examples, writes of the potential
for misunderstanding when speaking English - even amongst speakers for whom it
is their first language!
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This is fairly well done, though a little dated. I could tell that it was
written during the mid-90s since it didn't really cover much of
misunderstandings that have arrived with the rise of the Internet and e-mail.
If you read this one, be sure to also read Bill Bryson's book, Mother Tongue.
It is more thorough and a bit more humorous as well.
