The Internet's collection of information is ENORMOUS. There are printed words as well as pictures.
Some of the material on
the Internet is sexually explicit or violent in nature. Because that kind of material is offensive to some patrons,
Library Staff are
authorized to ask that you move to another site if the material you are viewing might be offensive.
The Library's policy is that parents or guardians - not the Massillon Public Library - are responsible for limiting what
their
own children under the age of 18 see and look for on the Internet.
Because the Internet changes so much everyday the Library cannot monitor the content of the Internet or guarantee the
accuracy of the information. Please be a careful information consumer.
EQUIPMENT
The Library tries to be sure the equipment which runs the Internet is in good working order; but if computers, printers,
modems, etc.
go down you cannot hold the Library responsible for the down time.
WHAT THE LIBRARY ALLOWS YOU TO DO
Sharing and retrieving information are what the Library’s Internet computers are for. If you wish to store material,
you may buy a new floppy disk from the Library. Purchase price for these
disks is inexpensive.
Some of the Library's computers have other software programs installed for your use. You may use these programs
during your reserved computer time, but you may not use your own software from home.
WHAT THE LIBRARY DOES NOT ALLOW
You may not:
CUSTOMER USE OF INTERNET COMPUTERS
You have to sign up to use the Internet. Time periods vary depending on the location of the terminal. You may only sign up for one time slot per day, including the 15 minute computer. These limits will be strictly enforced during peak business hours such as after school and weekends.
* NEW USERS
Library Staff can only help you navigate around the Internet as time permits. The Library offers a
variety of classes
to help you learn
to use the Internet. You can sign up for one or more of these classes.
Please understand that the waiting lists may be long.
PRINTING
Pages may be printed from our black-and-white printers for 15 cents each.
Please pay for your copies at the Circulation Desk before you leave the Library.
SOURCES FOR THIS POLICY
This policy is based on policies written by public and school libraries in Indiana and Kansas, and from information presented at
workshops.
CHANGES TO THE POLICY
The Massillon Public Library Board of Trustees may revise this Policy at any time.
You can obtain more information about any of these topics by reading the full text of the Library's

Policy (AUP)
