Encyclopedia Americana
Choose ENCYCLOPEDIA AMERICANA. Click BROWSE, and then HISTORY. Choose HISTORICAL EVENTS and scroll down to AMERICAN REVOLUTION. A nice long article summarizing crucial information leading up to and occurring within the war is in this database. For example, information on "Political Background", "Stamp Act Crisis", "Growing Resistance", "Boston Tea Party", and "Lexington and Concord".

Historic Valley Forge
Produced by The Independence Hall Association, "one of the foremost electronic publishers of American historical material on the Internet", this site provides a terrific introduction to the significant six months spent by George Washington and the Continental Army at Valley Forge.
PBS: Liberty! The American Revolution
This website contains interactive features that give accurate and interesting facts about the Revolutionary War. It is based on the six hour PBS miniseries. Sections include: "Chronicle of the Revolution" which highlights major events like the Boston Tea Party and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, as well as important battles like Saratoga and Yorktown. Each major section on a topic has a wonderful article about the topic, as well as a box listing related topics with links to read further on such subjects as the Lexington and Concord or Thomas Paine. This site also provides a timeline, an index to related topics, and the "Perspectives on Liberty" section that gives a point and click view of town or military life.
