cover Title:The Bad Beginning
(A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 1)
Author: Lemony Snicket

type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/FIC

This book is strong in character, story, language and setting.

Summary:
This novel tells the story of the Baudelaire children, who are orphaned but very rich. Count Olaf is a distant relative who wants to have their money and treats them very badly. After a few weeks, Count Olaf has devised a plan to get their money. Violet is to inherit the money when she comes of age or marries, so Olaf tries to trick Violet into marrying him.

Will Count Olaf's plan succeed or can the Baudelaire children outsmart this mean and nasty adversary?

I would recommend this book!

Why?
This is the first in a series of books full of adventure and humor. They are a little darker than Harry Potter, but still likeable by Potter fans.

Caution: The books get more "unfortunate" as they go on, so I recommend the rest of the series to those who like to read about characters dealing with darker and more depressing events.
