Title: The Big Book of Urban Legends
Authors: Jan Harold Brunvand, Robert Loren Fleming, Robert F. Boyd Jr.
type of book: Folklore
call number: 741.5973/ Fle (YA)
|
This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
Brunvand holds a Ph.D. as a folklorist and has published numerous
anthologies of modern narrative folklore, also known as urban legends, which always seem
to be stories that happened to a "friend of a friend."
This compilation is in comic form and
contains popular stories that have clear plot, all ending with a moral. The
categories of Pets, Horror, Automobile, Stupid Criminals, and Campfire Classics
feature tales that are funny, strange, and scary all at once. This book includes the babysitter
whose charges get murdered in their beds by a crazy man, as well as the
alligator that lives in the sewers.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
The illustrations are good and this book will appeal to teens,
especially older high school age readers. This book is the ultimate beginning
collection of urban legends.
