cover Title: King of the Mild Frontier: An Ill-Advised Autobiography
Author: Chris Crutcher

type of book: Autobiography
call number: YA/Fic/Fan

Summary:
Award winning author Chris Crutcher has written an autobiography which is just as humorous yet real and edgy as his novels. He relates the stories of his childhood and how they influenced his choices in life and his career. In this book, Crutcher holds nothing back when telling tales about the real issues he faced in childhood, which are very similar to ones confronting teens today. Some of the topics covered in the stories are the inspiration for his books, including learning to deal with his bad temper, not being a good athlete, and how older siblings can get you into a lot of trouble. He reminiscences on his family and school life, as well as what he learned as a teacher and therapist in adulthood. He tells readers how he always felt inadequate about everything in his life.

I might recommend this book.

Why?
The book is not always in chronological order and sometimes the back and forth movement from childhood and adulthood stories gets confusing; however, this wonderful and funny book provides a light and causal read. It is honest and revealing, while providing an intimate look at the author. For those who have read his fiction books, it is a must read. It might make new fans from those who read this autobiography first.
