Title: Spanish Holiday
Author: Kate Cann
type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/FIC
|
This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
Laura and her two best friends have been planning the best vacation ever for the
three years before they start the university in the fall. They have worked and
saved for a long time to travel all over Spain. However, their plans are
changed for the worse when Ruth finds an obnoxious boyfriend, who is coming with
them. Laura and Yaz are miserable and ready to go their separate ways from the
couple, when by chance they meet an older couple (Bella and Bobby) in Seville
who own a summer house in Spain and need summer house sitters. The group agrees
to try it out and Laura falls in love with the house, the setting and the small
town.
Juan is a local builder who helps take care of the grounds for Bella's
house. Yaz and Laura are both infatuated with him. Laura assumes that Yaz will be the
one Juan's interested in, so she pretends to not be all that interested.
Sparks, both good and bad fly all around, including the fact that Tom is bored
and demands Ruth leave with him to go south and vacation with the cheesy
touristy places while Yaz and Laura fight over Juan.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This is a fun summer read that gets better as the story goes along.
