Author: Nancy Etchemendy
type of book: YA Fiction

This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
As this story opens, an old limping man stops Gib in the woods and
gives him a crazy beat up looking device. The old man tells Gib he doesn't
have time to explain all the workings and disappears into thin air. Gib comes
home a little freaked out and soon discovers he has to take his four-year-old
little sister Roxy to the fair, where he was supposed to have fun with his best
friend. Now, he will have nothing to do but babysit and have no fun since she
is too small to go on the really fun rides. Gib leaves angry at his sister. He
decides he will ride the fun rides anyway and that his pesty little sister will
have to learn to wait by the exit for him. Unfortunately, his sister doesn't
listen and is upset her older brother is not giving her all the attention. Roxy
runs away from him and is hit by a truck and goes into a coma. Gib remembers
about the device he was given and believes he can "undo" his mistake.
However, he has to use math to calculate how far back to go because there are no
000s on the device and he keeps failing. Can Gib find the right combination of
numbers to save his sister?
I would recommend this book!
Why?
This book makes you wonder what you might do if a crazy old man gave you a device that allowed you to go back to the past and undo the mistakes you made . . . if you were good at math!
