Title: Cut
Author: Patricia McCormick
type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/FIC
|
This book is strong in character and story.
Summary:
After Callie embarks on a dangerous course of self mutilation ("cutting") she is sent to Sea Pines care center, called "Sick Minds" by the residents. Other girls are there for problems such as anorexia and other eating disorders. Callie, who has been unable to talk to anyone for a few years, vents all her frustration from her life on her own
body. Callie will not talk to her family, the other girls at the clinic, or the
therapist. The story is told through Callie's thoughts as she goes through her
day-to-day treatment at the clinic.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
The story is a gripping and real first person narrative. Readers will
definitely bond and identify with the main character. Even if readers don't
have the same kinds of behavioral problems that the characters in the story
have, they will learn how to better communicate and deal with conflict.
The novel is a quick and easy read that deals with some hard issues in teenage
life. It is very well written and it provides an accurate and truthful
portrayal of a teen girl's day to day thoughts and feelings.
