cover Title: Shadowmancer
Author: G. P. Taylor

type of book: YA Fantasy / Inspirational Christian Fiction
call number: YA/FIC/FAN

This book is strong in character, story and setting.

Summary:
This novel is an action-packed fantasy depicting a fantastical and apocalyptic battle between good and evil, filled with suspense and danger. Much of the story is allegorical like C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia," meaning characters and personalities represent religious and mythical icons. Demurral, a once holy vicar, is now intent on becoming a powerful shadowmancer, conjuring the darkest and most evil forces of the universe to help him overthrow Riathamus (God) and his angels. Thomas and Kate find themselves helping Raphah stop Demurral from accomplishing his task, while also trying to save their own souls through faith in the creator.

I might recommend this book.

Why?
Filled with magic and myth, this book should appeal to fans of Harry Potter who don't mind a heavy influence of Christian allegory and spiritual moments of faith like "Touched by an Angel." Also, fantasy lovers who have objections to Harry Potter will find this a suitable substitute. At times I found the allegory and allusion to Christian themes to be heavy-handed; however, those who can overcome this aspect or really enjoy inspirational fiction should appreciate this series.
