This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
The novel beings in the highlands of Scotland in a remote valley. The dragon
colony secretly living there soon learns that humans will be turning their home
into a lake. One of the oldest dragons (born in the homeland of all
dragons - the Rim of Heaven) tells the younger dragons they must try to relocate
their ancient homeland. All are afraid to leave the protection of the valley and do
not believe that humans are really coming. Firedrake is brave enough to heed
the warnings and sets off with his friend Sorrel to rediscover the Rim of Heaven.
Soon after leaving Scotland, Firedrake comes to the aid of a young human orphan
boy, Ben, who wants to help Firedrake with his journey. Thus begins an extensive number of trials and obstacles to overcome for the
team. They can only fly at night - since dragons feed on and get their strength
from moonlight - and must hide from humans, outrun Nettlebrand, and make friends with a djinni and a sea serpent among other adventures.
I would recommend this book!
