Title: Whispers from the Dead
Author: Joan Lowery Nixon
type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/FIC
|
This book is strong in character and story.
Summary:
This story opens with Sarah's near-death experience, i.e. almost drowning in a
lake. Because of this event Sarah is able to communicate with the other
side (ghosts).
Her Dad gets a promotion and the family moves to Houston. They move into a
great looking house in a nice neighborhood; however, they don't understand why
the house sold so cheaply. They soon find out there was a murder in the house
two years before.
Adam Holt, the boy who lived in the house before, murdered a pizza delivery girl
but got off the hook due an evidence issue in court. Sarah feels a presence in
the house immediately and discovers that a Spanish-speaking woman was also
killed on the same day as the pizza delivery girl in the house.
Dee Dee and Eric are neighborhood kids whom Sarah befriends. Eric was Adam's
best friend and Eric sets Sarah up on dates with Tony Harris.
Little by little the spirit of Rosa reveals the truth of the murders for
Sarah. Sarah discovers that "Evil is often fascinating...it has to be or it
wouldn't exist."
I would recommend this book!
