Title: Gossip Girl
Author: Cecily Von Ziegesar
type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/FIC
|
This book is strong in character, story and setting.
Summary:
Main Characters:
- Blair (bulimic) and Nate (stoner) - currently a couple
- Serena, back from boarding school
and old best friend of Blair, Kati, Isabel, and Chuck (horny guy)
- Dan, a regular kid, has had a secret crush on Serena since he first saw her at a
party
- Vanessa, an artsy film student who likes Dan
- Jenny, Dan's younger
sister (9th grader at school where the other girls go)
These characters are children of families who are connected from way back. This
series tells the story of the most beautiful, rich, and popular elite of New
York teens. It tells of their superficial lives filled with gossip, scandal,
sex, drugs, and back stabbing. Blair is not happy with Serena coming back, but
since a lot of horrible gossip is in the air about Serena (abortion, using and
selling drugs, STDs, sex) she is having problems fitting back in the popular
group. Nate still wants sex with Serena and is not being honest to Serena or
Blair. Blair doesn't know they had a fling and Nate figures he can have both
girls at the same time. Just as Blair and Nate are about to have sex, Nate
confesses to his fling with Serena and Blair throws him out, hating Serena now
more than ever. Things continue to get more complicated for these elite teens
as the story goes on.
I would recommend this book!
Why?
Throughout the book in each chapter an anonymous email is sent to the
students of both schools telling everyone all the gossip of these elite kids'
lives. It is only signed "gossip girl." Part of the challenge and fun of
reading these books is to try and find who could possibly be the "gossip girl."
Note: These books are for 9th graders and up.
